Professor Muhammad Yakubu FSSSN, RSS, is the Team for the Agriculture and Environment Group. He is a distinguished academic and administrator with a strong background in Soil Science and significant leadership experience in Nigerian Tertiary Education. He has a Ph.D. in Soil Science (2006) and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Agriculture (1995) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto; Master of Agriculture (M. Agric) in Pedology from the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (2001); as well as Postgraduate Diplomas in Management (1997) and Education (2003). With many awards to his credit, he is a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of Nigeria (FSSSN), a Registered Soil Scientist and member of different international and national professional soil science and agriculture associations.

With significant academic and research outputs, Professor Yakubu has held leading research roles for organizations like the National Programme for Food Security (FAO/Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Abuja) and Sokoto-Rima River Basin Development Authority. He was also the led the consultancy in the capacity building of Uganda’s Agricultural Extension Workers and Resource poor Rural Farmers on organic agriculture funded by Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA), Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2017. His teaching and research focus is in the areas of Soil Pedology, Soil Survey and Land Use Planning, Soil Erosion and Soil Degradation and Environmental studies.

Professor Yakubu as a tested higher education administrator held the positions of director of academic planning and deputy vice chancellor (administration) at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai; Provost of College of Education, Minna; and Chairman/member of governing council/Board and strategic positions inside and outside the academia. His scholarly presentations and participation have seen him travelled to China, Ethiopia, South Africa, and Uganda.
